Azerbaijan is a country located in the South Caucasus region at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It straddles the boundary between Western Asia and Eastern Europe. Azerbaijan is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia and Turkey to the west, and Iran to the south. It includes a landlocked exclave called the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The country's geographic coordinates range approximately between latitudes 38° and 42° North and longitudes 44° and 51° East. Its capital and largest city is Baku.
