Brian David Mitchell is currently serving a life sentence in federal prison for the 2002 kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart. After spending over eight years in custody in Utah, he was transferred to a federal prison. As of 2011, he was en route to federal prison and later was reported to be serving his sentence in a prison near Tucson, Arizona
