Chile is located in western South America, stretching along the southwestern coastline of the continent. It is a long and narrow country wedged between the Andes Mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Chile extends approximately 4,300 kilometers (about 2,700 miles) from north to south and is bordered by Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, Argentina to the east, and the Drake Passage to the south. It also controls several Pacific islands, including Easter Island. The country lies mostly between latitudes 17° and 56° south and longitudes 66° and 75° west, placing it in both the southern and western hemispheres. The capital city is Santiago.
