Denmark is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, located on the Jutland Peninsula and an archipelago of over 400 islands. It lies south of Norway, southwest of Sweden, and north of Germany, with which it shares a short land border. Denmark is bordered by the North Sea to the west and the Baltic Sea to the east. Its capital city, Copenhagen, is situated on the largest island, Zealand. The country is mostly flat with a temperate climate. No place in Denmark is more than 52 km (32 miles) from the coast, giving it one of the most coastal-heavy geographies in the world.
