Downton Abbey was primarily filmed at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England, which represents the Crawley family home, Downton Abbey itself. Many of the exterior shots and most of the interior upstairs scenes were filmed there. In addition to Highclere Castle, some village scenes were filmed in Bampton, Oxfordshire, which doubled as the fictional village of Downton. Other notable filming locations include Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, used as Brancaster Castle in the series, and West Wycombe Park in Buckinghamshire for some interiors. The filming also involved places such as Horsted Keynes Railway Station, Halton House in Buckinghamshire, and parts of Yorkshire and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for other scenes.
