Dunnellon is a city located in Marion County, Florida, United States. It is situated in north-central Florida, approximately 76 miles due north of Tampa. Dunnellon is positioned at the junction of the Rainbow River and the Withlacoochee River, with coordinates roughly at 29°3′N latitude and 82°27′W longitude. The city lies southwest of Ocala, the Marion county seat, by about 24 miles, and is close to the border with Citrus County. Dunnellon's total area is about 9.1 square miles, with most of it being land and a small percentage water. It is known historically for phosphate mining and is part of the Ocala Metropolitan Statistical Area.
