Jon Venables, one of the killers of toddler James Bulger, is currently in prison. He was recalled to prison in November 2017 after being found with indecent images of children on his computer. Since then, he has remained incarcerated as parole boards have deemed him still a danger to children and not safe for release. His most recent parole bid was rejected in December 2023, with the Parole Board stating that releasing him at this point would not be safe for public protection. He will be eligible for another parole review in about two years' time
. Venables was originally released on licence in 2001 after serving eight years for the murder committed when he was 10 years old, but he has been recalled multiple times due to breaches of licence conditions and possession of child sexual abuse material
