Mount Maunganui, also known as Mauao, is a 232-meter (about 760 feet) volcanic dome located at the end of a peninsula in the suburb of Mount Maunganui, part of Tauranga city in New Zealand. It is situated beside the eastern entrance to Tauranga Harbour on the North Island's Bay of Plenty region. The area includes both a harbour beach and an ocean beach, with the mountain connecting to the mainland via a sandbar (a tombolo). The mountain is a popular spot for hiking and scenic views, and the town itself is known for its coastal beach vibe, lively cafes, and surfing opportunities.
