Mount Everest is located on the border between Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It sits in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas, with its summit precisely on the international border. On the Nepal side, it lies in the Solukhumbu District and Sagarmatha National Park, while on the Chinese side, it is in the Tingri County of Tibet. The mountain is also locally known as Sagarmatha in Nepal and Chomolungma or Qomolangma in Tibet. It is the highest mountain in the world, standing at an elevation of approximately 8,848.86 meters (29,031.7 feet) above sea level.
