Mount Ruapehu is located in New Zealand, on the central North Island. It sits on the Taupo Volcanic Zone within Tongariro National Park, roughly 23 kilometers northeast of Ohakune and about 23 kilometers southwest of the southern shore of Lake Taupo. The volcano is the highest peak on the North Island and features three main summits: Tahurangi, Te Heuheu, and Paretetaitonga, with a crater lake (Te Wai a-moe) at its summit. It hosts New Zealand’s major ski areas, Whakapapa and Turoa, and contains glaciers on its upper slopes.
