Season 5 of Outer Banks was filmed mainly in Charleston, South Carolina, with additional scenes shot around Myrtle Beach and in Croatia. The South Carolina locations continue to stand in for the fictional Kildare Island and the North Carolina Outer Banks, while Croatia was used for parts of the season’s international storyline.
South Carolina filming locations
Charleston remains the production’s primary home. The city’s historic streets, waterfronts, marshes and surrounding communities have represented the show’s fictional coastal setting since the earlier seasons. Boat scenes were filmed largely around Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, just outside Charleston.
Season 5 also used locations in the Myrtle Beach area, including the Socastee Swing Bridge and other sites along the Grand Strand. Downtown Charleston locations featured in the season reportedly included Anson Street and the setting known as Big John’s Tavern.
Although the series is set in North Carolina, production has generally taken place in South Carolina rather than on North Carolina’s actual Outer Banks. The fictional Kildare Island is therefore a composite television setting, built from several coastal locations.
Croatia stands in for Lisbon
The production moved overseas for scenes set in or around Lisbon, Portugal. Filming took place in southern Croatia, especially Dubrovnik, Cavtat and Lokrum Island, with additional coastal scenes shot at Danče Beach.
Dubrovnik’s old-world architecture and Adriatic waterfront give the final season a noticeably different backdrop from the marshes and beaches of South Carolina. The Croatian locations were used to portray the characters’ international journey rather than the fictional Outer Banks itself.
When was Season 5 filmed?
Principal photography began in Charleston on June 16, 2025. The overseas filming block ran from October into early December, and production reportedly wrapped on December 19, 2025.
So, despite its North Carolina setting, the final season’s real-world filming map is split between the South Carolina coast and southern Croatia.
