San Marino is a landlocked country in Southern Europe, completely surrounded by Italy. It is located on the northeastern slopes of the Apennine Mountains, near the Adriatic coast. San Marino is one of the world's smallest countries and is an enclave within Italy, situated close to the city of Rimini. Its capital city is also called San Marino, located atop Monte Titano. The country is historically significant as the oldest extant sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world.
