Secretariat is buried at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky, in a small horse cemetery behind the farm's main office. Unlike most racehorses, Secretariat was buried whole in a 6 by 6-foot oak casket lined with orange silk, near his sire Bold Ruler. This is a rare honor, as typically only the head, heart, and hooves of winning racehorses are buried. Secretariat's gravesite is marked by a simple headstone and is often visited by fans who leave flowers, apples, and peppermints.
