Sperm is produced in the testes, specifically within tiny coiled structures called seminiferous tubules located inside the testes. These tubules contain germ cells that develop into sperm through a process called spermatogenesis. After formation, immature sperm move to the epididymis, a coiled tube on top of each testicle, where they mature and are stored. Mature sperm then travel through the vas deferens during ejaculation
. Key points:
- Production site: Seminiferous tubules inside the testes
- Maturation and storage: Epididymis
- Transport during ejaculation: Vas deferens and urethra
This process is regulated by hormones such as testosterone and follicle- stimulating hormone (FSH)
