Sunrise, Florida is a city located in central-western Broward County, within the Miami metropolitan area. It lies approximately six miles west of Fort Lauderdale and is bordered by the communities of Weston, Davie, Tamarac, Lauderhill, and Plantation. The city is situated in the heart of South Florida's tri-county region, which includes Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. It is conveniently accessible via major highways such as I-595, I-75, the Sawgrass Expressway, and the Florida Turnpike, and is close to three international airports and deep-water ports
. Sunrise covers more than 18 square miles, reaching the Everglades to the west and extending south of I-595/State Road 84. It was originally incorporated in 1961 as Sunrise Golf Village and has grown significantly since then, with a population of about 97,335 as of the 2020 census
