Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, which are part of Spain. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of Africa, approximately 300 kilometers from the northwest coast of Africa and about 1,000 kilometers from mainland Spain. Tenerife politically belongs to Spain, although geographically it is closer to the African continent. The island is also the most populous and the most visited of the Canary Islands. Its capital city is Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
