The Washington Commanders' current home stadium is Northwest Stadium, located in Landover, Maryland, about 5 miles east of Washington, D.C. This stadium was formerly known as FedExField. However, there are plans for the team to return to Washington, D.C. with a new stadium under construction on the site of the former RFK Stadium in the city's Hill East neighborhood near the Anacostia River. The new stadium, named New Commanders Stadium, is planned to have a 65,000 seating capacity, with construction expected to start in 2026 and complete around 2030. This new stadium will be located about 2 miles east of the U.S. Capitol building on East Capitol Street in Washington, D.C., essentially bringing the team back to its historic home site after several decades in Maryland.
