In Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film, the exterior of the Overlook Hotel is Timberline Lodge on the south side of Mount Hood in Mount Hood National Forest, Oregon, USA. The lodge’s address is commonly listed as 27500 E Timberline Road, Government Camp, Oregon 97028.

Book inspiration

Stephen King based the Overlook Hotel in his novel on The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, near Rocky Mountain National Park. The Stanley Hotel also served as a main location for the 1997 TV miniseries adaptation of The Shining.
