The Sahara Desert is located in North Africa. It spans across several countries including Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Western Sahara, Sudan, and Tunisia. The desert stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Red Sea in the east, and from the Mediterranean Sea in the north to the Sahel region in the south, which is a semi-arid transitional zone to the savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. It covers about 9.2 million square kilometers, making it the largest hot desert in the world.
