The spleen is located in the upper left part of the abdomen, specifically in the left hypochondriac region or left upper quadrant. It lies posterior (behind) to the stomach and anterior (in front) to the left hemidiaphragm, around the level of ribs 9 to 10. Medially, it is near the left kidney, superiorly it is beneath the diaphragm, and inferiorly it rests on the left colic flexure of the colon. The spleen is protected by the rib cage and is not normally palpable in healthy individuals due to its position behind the ribs.
