The uterus is located in the pelvic cavity, between the urinary bladder in front and the rectum behind. It sits higher (posterior/upward) relative to the bladder and is typically described as lying over the top and back of the bladder, with the cervix projecting into the vagina. In adults, it is roughly pear-shaped and measures about 7–8 cm in length, 4–5 cm in width, and 2–3 cm in thickness, though sizes vary among individuals. The uterus is supported by several ligaments and is enveloped by peritoneum, giving it stability within the pelvis.
