Wake Forest is a town located mostly in Wake County, North Carolina, just north of Raleigh, the state capital. It is part of the Raleigh metropolitan area. The town was originally the home of Wake Forest University before the university moved to Winston-Salem in 1956. Wake Forest occupies about 19.67 square miles with a moderate subtropical climate. It has a rich history tied to the establishment of the Wake Forest Manual Labor Institute (later Wake Forest College) in the early 19th century. The town features parks, recreation areas, and operates under a council-manager government system.
Wake Forest University, though sharing the name, is now located in Winston- Salem, North Carolina, which is about 80 miles northwest of the town of Wake Forest. The university was originally founded in the town of Wake Forest before relocating in the mid-20th century.
