Your gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ located in the upper right part of your abdomen, just underneath the liver. It sits in a shallow depression on the underside of the right lobe of the liver, in the right hypochondrial region of the abdomen

. The gallbladder lies anterior to the first part of the small intestine (duodenum) and is connected to the biliary tree, which carries bile from the liver to the small intestine

. It stores and concentrates bile produced by the liver, releasing it into the duodenum to aid in the digestion of fats

. In summary, the gallbladder is located:

  • In the upper right abdomen
  • Underneath and attached to the underside of the liver
  • Anterior to the duodenum (first part of the small intestine)

This location allows it to efficiently store bile from the liver and release it into the digestive tract when needed
