Ozempic should be injected under the skin (subcutaneously) in one of the following sites: the abdomen (between your chest and groin), the thigh (outer front area), or the upper arm (back side). It is important to inject at least 2 inches away from the belly button if using the abdomen and to avoid injecting into muscle or veins. Rotating injection sites within these areas is recommended to prevent skin irritation or lumps from repeated injections in the same spot. Each injection should be given in a different spot if using the same area repeatedly. The buttocks can also be used as an injection site but is less common and harder to reach by oneself. In summary:
- Common injection sites: Abdomen, thigh, upper arm
- Inject subcutaneously, not intramuscularly or intravenously
- Rotate injection sites to avoid irritation and lumps
- Abdomen is often preferred due to ease of access and faster absorption
- Thigh and upper arm are good alternatives
- Avoid injecting near the belly button, in muscle, veins, or damaged skin
