Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas, on July 24, 1897. Her birthplace was a house on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River, built by her maternal grandfather, Judge Alfred G. Otis. This Gothic Revival style home is now a museum known as the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum. Amelia spent much of her childhood in this home with her grandparents, despite her father's job requiring the family to move frequently.
