Captain James T. Kirk, the fictional character from Star Trek, was born in the town of Riverside, Iowa, on March 22, 2233. Riverside adopted the designation as Kirk's future birthplace officially in 1985, after a city council motion, and Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, approved this designation. The town even erected a monument marking Riverside as the "Future Birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk".
