Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, in Württemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. His family was secular Jewish. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Munich, Germany, where he began his schooling. Later, his family moved to Italy, and Einstein continued his education in Switzerland. He renounced his German citizenship in 1896 and became a Swiss citizen. Later in life, he emigrated to the United States and became a U.S. citizen in 1940.
