Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio, Corsica, on August 15, 1769. He was born into an aristocratic family in a house known as Maison Bonaparte, which is now a museum. At the time of his birth, Corsica had recently become part of France, having been controlled by the Genoese Republic before that. His parents were Carlo Buonaparte and Letizia Ramolino, and Napoleon was the second surviving child among several siblings.
