Raiders of the Lost Ark was filmed in multiple locations around the world:
- Tunisia: Many of the "Cairo" and "Egyptian desert" scenes were shot in Tunisia, specifically in Kairouan (standing in for Cairo) and Tozeur with the Sidi Bouhlel Canyon area used for dramatic desert canyon scenes.
- Hawaii: The opening jungle scenes and South American temple scenes were filmed on Kauai island in Hawaii, particularly at Kipu Ranch on the east coast.
- California, USA: Locations around Stockton and the University of the Pacific were used for some scenes, including exteriors of Barnett College.
- France: The WWII German submarine base scenes were filmed at La Rochelle and La Pallice on the west coast of France.
- England: Studio sets including Marion's Raven Bar, Peruvian temple, Well of Souls, and interior scenes were shot at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, England. Some government building scenes were filmed in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.
These diverse locations together created the rich world of the film Raiders of the Lost Ark.
