Spandau Prison was located in the borough of Spandau in the British Sector of West Berlin, Germany. Its address was on Wilhelmstraße in the Spandau district of western Berlin. The prison was constructed in 1876 and demolished in 1987 after the death of its last prisoner, Rudolf Hess. It was near the Renaissance-era Spandau Citadel fortress but was a separate facility. The prison originally served as a military detention center and later held civilian inmates as well. After World War II, it was operated by the Four- Power Authorities to house Nazi war criminals sentenced at the Nuremberg Trials.
