where was the battle of waterloo

The Battle of Waterloo was fought near Waterloo, which at the time was part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands and is now in Belgium. The battlefield is located mainly in the Belgian municipalities of Braine-l'Alleud and Lasne, approximately 15 kilometers south of Brussels and about 2 kilometers from the town of Waterloo. The battle site today is marked by the Lion's Mound monument and historical farms such as Hougoumont and La Haye Sainte, which were significant locations during the battle. This historic battle took place on June 18, 1815, near the hamlet of Mont-Saint-Jean, just south of Waterloo.
