The explosion occurred at Accurate Energetic Systems, a military explosives manufacturing facility located in the Bucksnort area of Tennessee. This site is about 50 to 60 miles southwest of Nashville. The blast happened on a Friday morning just before 8 a.m. local time and was so powerful it was heard and felt miles away. The explosion destroyed one of the facility's buildings, leaving a half-mile square area of debris, with wreckage scattered off-site. The plant consists of eight buildings and is situated in rural Tennessee, surrounded by wooded hills near Bucksnort. The explosion has resulted in multiple fatalities and several people are still unaccounted for.
