Valley Forge was located in Pennsylvania, approximately 18 to 22 miles northwest of Philadelphia. It was the site of the winter encampment of the Continental Army under General George Washington during the American Revolutionary War from December 19, 1777, to June 19, 1778. The area is along the west bank of the Schuylkill River at the confluence of Valley Creek, now preserved as Valley Forge National Historical Park. The location was strategic, defensible, and near trade routes and farm supplies at the time.
