Wine was likely invented in the region of West Asia, including the Caucasus Mountains and areas that are now Armenia, Georgia, northern Iran, and eastern Turkey. The earliest evidence of wine dates back to around 6000 BC in Georgia, with the oldest known winery discovered in Armenia dating to about 4100 BC. This region is often considered the true origin of wine, with ancient people in these areas being the first to domesticate grapes and produce wine. The Shulaveri-Shomu people are thought to be among the earliest winemakers during the Neolithic period. Wine culture then spread from this region to other parts of the world over time.
