Bonnie and Clyde were killed in an ambush by law enforcement officers near Sailes, Bienville Parish, Louisiana, on May 23, 1934. They were shot to death on a rural road about seven and a half miles south of Gibsland, Louisiana. The ambush site is now commemorated with monuments and a museum in nearby Gibsland, where Bonnie and Clyde had stopped for sandwiches shortly before the ambush. The police opened fire on their car as they attempted to drive away, killing them almost instantly.
