Doritos were invented at Disneyland, California, specifically at a restaurant called Casa de Fritos (now Rancho Del Zocalo) in the early 1960s. The chips originated when staff at the restaurant decided to repurpose surplus tortillas by cutting them into triangles, frying them, and adding basic seasoning. This idea came from a salesman who suggested frying and selling the otherwise discarded tortillas as chips. The snack became popular at Disneyland, and then Frito-Lay, noticing the demand, launched Doritos nationally in 1966, making them the first tortilla chip to be sold nationwide in the United States.
