Gummy bears were invented in Germany in the early 1920s by Hans Riegel Sr., the founder of the Haribo company. They were originally called "Dancing Bears" (Tanzbär) and later became known as "Goldbears" (Goldbär) under the Haribo brand. The invention was inspired by the tradition of trained, dancing bears that were a popular sight at German festivals. Haribo gummy bears were first made in Bonn, Germany, and have since become a globally popular confectionery product.
