The 2012 Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad, were held in London, England. The Games took place from July 27 to August 12, 2012, with some events also occurring in other parts of the United Kingdom, such as Glasgow, Scotland, and Cardiff, Wales. The main venues were centered around the Olympic Park in East London, which included newly built sports facilities as well as existing venues across London and some outside the Greater London area. This marked the third time London hosted the modern Olympic Games, having previously done so in 1908 and 1948.
