The Rams were originally from Cleveland, Ohio. The franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams and played initially in the American Football League before joining the NFL. Their name was inspired by Damon "Buzz" Wetzel, the general manager at the time, who was a fan of the Fordham Rams college football team. The team was based in Cleveland until 1945, when they won the NFL Championship, and then moved to Los Angeles in 1946.
