The candy that played a key role in the movie "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" was Reese's Pieces. In a famous scene, the young boy Elliott lures E.T. with a trail of Reese’s Pieces candies. Originally, the filmmakers wanted to use M&Ms, but Mars Inc., the owner of M&Ms, refused to allow their use in the film. Consequently, Reese’s Pieces, owned by Hershey, were used instead. The partnership between Hershey and the movie was very successful, leading to a significant boost in Reese’s Pieces sales after the film's release in 1982.
