Tagalog is mainly associated with the Philippines. It is also spoken by large Filipino communities in many other countries.
Main country
Tagalog is a major language of the Philippines and serves as the basis of Filipino, the national language used in education, media, and government there. It is spoken natively by tens of millions of people in regions such as Metro Manila and much of central and southern Luzon, and understood as a second language by a majority of the population.
Other countries
Large Tagalog-speaking communities exist because many Filipinos live and work abroad. Significant numbers of Tagalog speakers are found in the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Japan, and several other countries in the Middle East and around the world.
