Foods that contain major allergens recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) include milk, eggs, fish (such as bass, cod, and flounder), crustacean shellfish (such as crab, lobster, and shrimp), tree nuts (such as almonds, walnuts, and pecans), peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame (added as a recognized allergen as of January 1, 2023). These allergens are responsible for about 90% of food allergy reactions and are required to be clearly labeled on packaged foods in the U.S. to help protect consumers with allergies.
