The general who won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1932 for his memoir "My Experiences in the World War" was General John J. Pershing. His memoir, chronicling his experiences and command of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I, received the award that year. Pershing is the only American to be promoted in his lifetime to the rank of General of the Armies, and his memoir was published in two volumes in 1931 before winning the Pulitzer Prize the following year.
