As of October 2025, there are 48 hostages still held in Gaza by Hamas, with about 20 of them believed to be alive. These 20 living hostages are all Israeli men, many of whom are under 30 years old and include several soldiers and individuals taken during the October 7, 2023, attack. Some of the named hostages believed to be alive include Matan Angrest, Gali and Ziv Berman, Elkana Bohbot, Rom Braslavski, Ariel Cunio, David Cunio, and Alon Ohel among others. There are also two hostages—Nepalese student Bipin Joshi and Israeli soldier Tamir Nimrodi—for whom no proof of life has been found since their abduction. The remaining hostages are in dire conditions, and their families continue to hope for their safe return amid ongoing conflict and negotiations for a ceasefire and prisoner exchanges.
