Why scene safety comes first
Ensuring there are no immediate dangers (traffic, fire, falling objects, electrical hazards, violence) prevents you from becoming a second victim and allows you to give effective help. Once the area is safe, you can move on to checking the person’s responsiveness, calling emergency services, and starting CPR if needed.
