Vermont is the New England state that does not have a coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. All the other New England states—Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island—border the Atlantic Ocean directly. Vermont, by contrast, is landlocked within the region.
