Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) describes classified information concerning or derived from sensitive intelligence sources, methods, or analytical processes that require handling within specialized security channels called compartments. Access to SCI requires a Top Secret clearance plus specific indoctrination into the compartment(s) holding the information. SCI imposes an additional overlay of security on classified information, segregating it into compartments for enhanced protection and strict need-to- know dissemination control. Unauthorized access or compromise of SCI could significantly impact national security. SCI is typically processed and stored in Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) to prevent unauthorized access or eavesdropping.
