Researchers who must follow TCPS 2 (Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans) are those affiliated with an eligible Canadian institution conducting research involving human participants, regardless of funding source or research location. This includes:
- Graduate students at eligible Canadian colleges conducting self-funded research interviewing human participants.
- Professors at eligible Canadian universities conducting research internationally involving human participants.
- Researchers at eligible academic institutions conducting research within the institution regardless of funding source.
- Master’s students at eligible institutions conducting research involving human participants off the premises of their institution.
TCPS 2 applies broadly to all faculty, staff, and students involved in research with human participants under the auspices of eligible Canadian institutions.
