The part of a plant cell that absorbs light for photosynthesis is the chloroplast. Chloroplasts contain the green pigment chlorophyll, which traps light energy needed to drive the photosynthesis process. Specifically, within chloroplasts, the thylakoid membranes house chlorophyll and other pigments that capture light and initiate the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis.
