The Blue Jays are a Canadian professional baseball team based in Toronto, known as the Toronto Blue Jays. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the American League East Division. Established in 1977, the Blue Jays are the only MLB team based outside the United States since the Montreal Expos became the Washington Nationals in 2005. Their home games are played at Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto. The team is named after the blue jay bird, reflecting Toronto's tradition of using blue in sports teams' colors. The Blue Jays have royal blue, navy blue, red, and white as their official colors. They have a history of significant success, including winning back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993, making them the first team outside the U.S. to win the World Series. The team is colloquially nicknamed the "Jays" and has a passionate fan base in Canada. The Blue Jays had early struggles typical of an expansion team but grew into a powerhouse in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They have experienced playoff appearances in recent years and continue to be a prominent team in MLB with corporate ownership by Rogers Communications.
